Grade Calculator
Calculate your current course grade, weighted average, letter grade, and the score needed on remaining assessments to reach a target grade.
Enter assignment, quiz, exam, and project scores with their weights to calculate your current grade, letter grade, and the score needed on any remaining assessments to reach your target grade.
Weighted Grade Calculation
How weighted grades work
Most courses assign different weights to different components. For example, homework might count for 30%, the midterm 30%, and the remaining assessment 40%. A score of 95 on homework contributes 95 × 0.30 = 28.5 points toward your final grade. Add up all weighted contributions to get your overall grade.
What-if target grade mode
Enter your target grade and mark any future or ungraded assessments as Remaining. The calculator works backwards from your completed coursework and the remaining weight to determine the average score needed on the remaining assessments to reach your target grade.
Tips for tracking grades mid-semester
Add each graded item as a row with its actual score and weight. Make sure all weights sum to 100% — the calculator will warn you if they do not. If a future assignment has not been graded yet, leave its score blank and it will be excluded from the current grade calculation.
Current Grade = Σ(score × weight) ÷ Σ(completed weights)
Required Score = ((Target Grade × 100) − Σ(completed score × weight)) ÷ Σ(remaining weights)
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each score by its weight and add the weighted contributions together. If some assessments are not yet graded, the calculator divides by the total completed weight to show your current grade. For example, a 90 on a 30% assignment contributes 27 points. Repeat for all assignments and sum the results to get your final grade.
What score do I need on my remaining assessments to get an A?
Enter your target grade and mark any future or ungraded assessments as Remaining. The calculator will use the remaining weights to determine the score needed to reach your target grade.
My weights do not add up to 100% — is that a problem?
Yes. For an accurate final grade, all assignment weights must total exactly 100%. The calculator warns you when they do not. Check for missing assignments or rounding errors in your syllabus.
What letter grade is a 85%?
An 85% falls in the B range. The standard scale used is: A 93+, A- 90-92, B+ 87-89, B 83-86, B- 80-82, C+ 77-79, C 73-76, C- 70-72, D+ 67-69, D 63-66, D- 60-62, F below 60. Check your course syllabus as some instructors use different cutoffs.
Can I use this if some assignments are not graded yet?
Yes. Leave the score blank for any ungraded assignments. Those rows will be excluded from the current grade calculation. Only rows with both a score and a weight filled in are counted.
What is the formula for the Grade Calculator?
Current Grade = ∑(score × weight) / ∑(completed weights)
Required Score = ((Target Grade × 100) − ∑(completed score × weight))
/ ∑(remaining weights).
Both scores are expressed as percentages from 0 to 100.
